Tinea Capitis Causes

Tinea capitis is a specific type of fungal infection primarily affecting the scalp. This is also called, more commonly as the ringworm of the scalp. This fungal infection is associated with several causes and we will look into it one by one.

It must be understood that the main cause of tinea or ringworm is a specific range of fungi called dermatophytes. Dermatophytes are described to be mold like in appearance. They are said to widely grow in moist and warm environments. Well actually, all fungi grow well in such areas.
You can be more prone to have ringworm of the scalp if you have injuries or trauma in that area. With such an infection, you will not be able to wash your hair as often as you should. This will promote the growth of fungi and because of that, infection is more likely possible! If you sweat a lot or if you perform a lot of activities that makes you sweat too much, you are more likely to acquire the said fungal infection as well.

Again, high temperatures and moisture are two of the best conditions that will help the tinea fungi grow.
Tinea capitis or ringworm of the scalp is associated with direct contact to materials that are used by someone who already has the fungal infection. For example, if you use the comb of someone who has tinea capitis, you will most likely be affected by the fungal infection. Some of the most common materials that serve as a tool to spread infection include combs, headdresses, hats and other types of clothing and accessories.
Aside from these materials, people must aware that pets can also harbor the fungi and thus, spread the infection. If the pets have tinea, you must avoid direct contact with them as well.
These are the major and most common causes of tinea capitis or ringworm of the scalp. Knowing these causes are very essential for you to be able to effectively protect yourself from developing the fungal infection. This might already be a cliche but as we all know, prevention of the condition is always a whole lot better than curing it!
